The effect of composite materials on powder coatings

Since the 1980s, powder coatings have been recognized as a kind of environmentally friendly coatings by people in the coatings and coating industry. Especially in recent years, the requirements for environmental protection and sustainable development have risen rapidly. Regardless of government regulations or industry trends, low-volatility and non-volatile coatings will become the main direction of the overall development of the coatings industry. However, with years of development, many disadvantages of powder coatings have always plagued practitioners, the most important of which is the dispersion of materials.

Dispersibility is a commonplace issue in the coating industry, and the material dispersion of powder coatings is poor. The main reason is that there is no solvent in the coating, and the extrusion mixing and dispersion are carried out under the melting condition, and the time is very short. There are great differences in the indicators of particle size, viscosity, and oil absorption among materials, and it is difficult to achieve sufficient wetting, coating and mutual dissolution. Although great improvements have been made in terms of process and system stickiness, there is not much improvement in coating performance. In recent years, some pre-treated composite materials have pointed out another way out in this regard, giving more options for coating performance improvement.

Application of surface wrapping technology

Such raw materials are more common, such as the coating of metal powders, pigments, and fillers. The selection of different coating materials can bring more excellent performance.

The outer layer of aluminum powder coated with silica or acrylic can effectively improve its oxidation resistance, and the outdoor use of aluminum powder becomes possible under the multi-layer coating. The latest polyester-coated aluminum powder relies on the outer coating layer to be more similar to the base powder, and avoids the shortcomings of large oil absorption and the difference between the charged and the base powder. In the case of post-mixing only, the amount added is 15%, there is no separation of metal powder and foundation powder, and the effect of metal powder is good. At the same time, the flash point of the aluminum powder after multi-layer coating has also been correspondingly reduced, so that the safety of use has been improved.

The functional filler can effectively reduce the oil absorption of the filler by coating different organic materials on the surface of the filler, and adjust the leveling and gloss of the coating after use. The pearly luster coated with stearic acid can get a better flashing effect in the coating and reduce its dosage. Calcium carbonate coated with different organic substances also greatly improves the surface condition under the premise of improving its stability, and has been applied in many fields.
